Dalesdown Holiday

Our holiday for families with autistic children is “An extraordinary blessing”

As part of our accessible holiday programme, Through the Roof organises a unique holiday in Sussex for families with autistic children. We provide a comprehensive, structured yet flexible programme of activities for families, which include outings, Bible-based teaching and activities, crafts, sport, praise parties and a talent show. Nothing is compulsory and so everyone can choose whatever is appropriate to them.

Additionally, we provide volunteers who supply one-to-one respite care for each autistic child. This extremely popular short holiday in the peaceful setting of the Dalesdown Christian Centre www.dalesdown.org.uk gives parents a rare opportunity to relax with others from similar situations.

The next Dalesdown holiday will take place on 23rd – 26th May 2008. There are no places left, but please contact Margaret Bale if you’d like any further information, by following this link to e-mail her or tel: 01372 749955.

The following are quotes from parents:

  • “Just to say how overwhelmed I have been this week by people’s kindness and generosity. The workers’ good attitude really made a difference to how we felt and contributed to us coming home completely rested. We have really felt loved and cared for.”
  • “The organisation was excellent. I think it had to be well-structured to help the autistic children. It could not have been improved.”

  • “We were touched by the love and care shown by the helpers, not just to our son but to the whole family. We were moved that so many people gave their time and efforts to enable us to have a holiday.”
  • “This holiday has provided me with the most stress-free time I can remember. Our one-to-one (helper) was absolutely superb. Without this help I would not have considered coming without my husband; with it the whole holiday felt like an extraordinary blessing from God to us.”
