From Friday 23rd May to Monday 26th May, Through the Roof will be running a holiday for families with Autistic children at Dalesdown, Sussex. This is the third time we’ve run one of these holidays, and we’re looking forward to an excellent weekend! Please do pray for a fun and relaxing holiday for all of the families and helpers. Internet connection allowing, we’ll update this page throughout the weekend.

Friday
Helpers and families will be making their way to the centre today, ready for an evening programme involving a praise party, a meal together, stories and a chance for everyone to get to know one another. We’ll be updating later!
10pm: it’s been an excellent first evening, with all the leaders and families now here and a good, relaxed atmosphere. Please do pray for that to continue and for safety and fun for the next few days. Also, for continued good weather. Thank you!
Saturday
Another day of glorious weather at Dalesdown, and an excellent day, featuring an adventure playground, parachute games, songs, a praise party, a trip to the park. There’s also been free time for many of the parents, as well as discussion time about raising a family with a child or children with autism. Weather forecasts for tomorrow are a bit more sketchy, so please do pray for that, as well as for a great and restful time for all. Thank you.
After The Weekend
Sorry for not updating on Sunday — the good weather mostly kept up, and it was another successful and fun day, with more on the adventure playground, a talent show (many of the children & a few helpers took part, singing, dancing, performing sports skills or running an interactive quiz), and an excursion to go swimming. We also held a service in the morning, with worship, a short talk, and communion all together. Thank you for your prayers.
Despite a gloomy turn in the weather on Monday confining everyone to the centre for the morning, Monday was another excellent day. The children learnt about the parable of the prodigal son and did craft activities, whilst parents took part in a meditation and continued Saturday’s discussion on autism and family. Everyone was tired after a long and active weekend, but the good atmosphere continued right through the day. Shortly after lunch everyone headed back home, and we’ve already received a lots of positive feedback from the weekend. We’ll be back in 2009!
Coming soon we’ll have a longer report and pictures from the weekend.
