Lasting values of the Paralympics

With three months to go until the Paralympic Games, Through the Roof has joined with ALOVE, the youth division of the Salvation Army, both contributors to More Than Gold's Paralympic Team, to launch ‘Lasting Values’ - a new free resource enabling schools and church youth groups to explore the values of the Games.

Available to download free ‘Lasting Values’ provides interactive, ready-to-use session content, based on the values of Courage, Determination, Equality and Inspiration, adopted by the Paralympic Games.

Each session offers leaders the opportunity to select from options of practical activities to explore with their young people. These include visual (video), active (disability sports and games), creative (arts/crafts/drama), and the experience of multi-sensory ideas, which engage all abilities in individual and group settings. The resource helps leaders apply the learning to the young people’s lives and also gives the option to learn principles of truth through Bible verses and prayer.

Tim Wood, Chief Executive of Through the Roof said: “The Paralympic Games offers the unique opportunity for the church to profile the needs of the most excluded people group - disabled people. I hope this resource can serve churches in helping transform attitudes to disability.” Co-author, Rachel Boyes, Strategic Development Officer for ALOVE, added, “The values of the Paralympics send a positive message to inspire us all in our communities. The resource provides creative ways to enable young people to explore the values and how to apply them in their own lives. ”
